Many of the things we do each day are useful but not particularly exciting.

Giving an ordinary task an exaggerated or ridiculous name adds a

small element of playfulness.

It changes the way the task feels.

Instead of facing another routine job, you are beginning an important
mission, launching an operation, or tackling a dramatic challenge.

It may sound silly.

That is exactly why it works.

What This Looks Like in Real Life

You could rename:

• Tidying your desk as “Operation Clear the Runway”
• Emptying your inbox as “The Great Email Escape”
• Doing the washing as “Mission Sock Recovery”
• Preparing dinner as “The Five-Star Kitchen Challenge”
• Sorting paperwork as “The Attack of the Paper Mountain”
• Cleaning the car as “Project Bring Back the Shine”

You can keep the name to yourself or share it with someone who will
enjoy the joke.

Action Exercise

Today, choose one routine task that you are not looking forward to.

Give it the most dramatic or ridiculous name you can think of.

Then announce the beginning of your mission and complete it with a smile.
